Call for Art
OPEN TO ALL CT MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Important Deadlines
Call for Submissions - April 18, 2023
Submission Deadline - May 31, 2023
Juried Selections Announced - June 6, 2023
cARTie invites visual art submissions from all CT middle and high school students that thoughtfully interpret the theme of art as universal language. All submissions will be included in cARTie’s Virtual Gallery and selected works of art will be featured in cARTie’s 2023-2024 Juried Art Exhibition that celebrates the power of art as language and grows out of an exchange of art facilitated by Creative Connections between students at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, CT and the Machakos School for the Deaf in Township, Kenya.
Now in its third year, cARTie’s annual Call for Art attracts emerging student-artists across the state of Connecticut and provides them a space to see their art prominently displayed and celebrated. Juried art selections form part of the annual art exhibition aboard the cARTie art museum bus and inspire thousands of young children and entire communities with limited access to the arts in education every year. The Jurying Committee in 2023 will give the most consideration to submissions that celebrate the power of art as language and take inspiration from the exchange between students at the American School for the Deaf and the Machakos School for the Deaf in a high-quality artwork that is visually compelling, original in concept, and accessible to young audiences. The Jurying Committee will also make sure to select for a diverse representation of high school student-artists.
Students may interpret the theme of art as universal language in myriad ways including — but not limited to — a narrative sequence or story, portraiture, symbols and abstraction, a landscape. Multiple mediums are accepted for submission including 2-D and 3-D visual artworks in painting, drawing, mixed media, digital, and sculpture. Students will also submit a written “Artist Bio” and “Art Story” to accompany their artwork. Their Art Story discusses the theme of art as universal language, the student’s creative process and interpretation, and a message the student wishes to share with the community.
Awards will be presented to student-artists with works of art aboard cARTie at the organization’s Fall Open House. Additionally, 5 student-artists will be randomly selected to win a $50 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama.
