You can go on an art museum field trip adventure just like our cARTie educators!

This month, our education team got together to reflect on all we accomplished this 2025-2026 school year with a museum field trip adventure. In classic cARTie form, we did not just visit a museum; we made it interactive, reflective, connective, and fun!

We used a tool that you've seen before on our cARTie @ home blog: popsicle stick prompts. This time, though, we each contributed prompts!

Prompts ranged from the personal ("I recognize my best self in this piece") to the big picture ("What constitutes a portrait?").

We each randomly picked out a prompt to start/guide our exhibition exploration. We wandered gallery rooms, talking, thinking, and connecting. This activity allowed for individual reflection time, as well as group discussion. By the time it was time to leave, we had gotten to a whole new level of knowing each other.

Take it from us: this activity is GREAT!

Give it a try:

1. Save some popsicle sticks from your summer popsicle fun.
2. Make an example popsicle stick prompt, ie: "I love this piece of art because..."
3. Next, help your kids think about things they love and turn those into prompts. Work with them to write their prompts on a popsicle stick. Take your own turn too!
4. Pick a museum/exhibition to go see. Something that sparks your interest, for whatever reason. Reserve an hour of time to explore, together (and make sure you pick out a fun spot to travel to next for a snack, etc).
5. Start your exploration by building up the suspense; Each of you will pick out a random popsicle stick to guide your looking. Read out the prompts you get as you pull them.
